Angel Oak

Just off Bohicket Road on Wadmalaw Island, South Carolina stands the (reportedly) oldest living organism east of the Rocky Mountains: the Angel Oak.This mammoth tree - which looks like it may be several trees that have grown together - is somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,500 years old.

Let me repeat that.

1,500 years old.
It's supported a few places by jack stands and blocks of wood.It reminds me of something out of a movie. Harry Potter maybe? Can't you just see that huge spider coming out from behind there. **Shudder** I hate spiders.Anyhoo, it was really neat to stand under those branches and think about all that "The Tree" has seen and heard over the past 1,500 years.

If only it could talk. Imagine the stories it could tell.
